American Dahlia Society Classification (AKA - flower nerd talk)
Class: 2012 | Form: ID | Size: B | Color: Y | Color Description: YL9
Height: 66"+
Westerton Lilian dahlia tuber – a tall, 6 ft informal decorative dahlia with 6–8" pale yellow blooms and soft blush centers. Introduced in 2014 by UK hybridizer Gordon Hodgson, this cutting-garden favorite offers big, romantic flowers perfect for bouquets and floral design. Westerton Lilian is one of those dahlias I can’t imagine my cutting garden without. The color reminds me of lemon meringue pie—pale yellow with the softest blush in the center—and she’s just as sweet as she sounds. The plants get tall (around 6 feet), with big, floaty blooms that are perfect for cutting. I reach for her all season for soft, romantic bouquets, and she never disappoints.

If you love soft, romantic color on seriously impressive blooms, Westerton Lilian belongs in your cutting garden.
This informal decorative dahlia produces large 6–8" flowers in a pale, creamy yellow with a gentle blush center. The color reminds me of lemon meringue pie—light, airy, and sweet in every arrangement. On tall plants that reach about 6 feet, these blooms float above the foliage and absolutely glow in the garden.
Hybridized by Gordon Hodgson (UK) and introduced in 2014, Westerton Lilian is classified by the American Dahlia Society as Y – Yellow, ID – Informal Decorative, B – Medium (6–8"), with ADS code 2102 and color chip YL9. In real life, that translates to: big, romantic blooms with soft yellow petals kissed by a pink flush in the center.
In the garden and studio, Westerton Lilian offers:
-
Tall plants (around 6 ft) – perfect for cutting rows
-
Big, showy flowers that make instant focal points in bouquets
-
Soft yellow and blush tones that play nicely with whites, peaches, and pinks
-
Long stems that are ideal for vases and arrangements
If you’re building a cutting garden and want at least one “wow” yellow that still feels gentle and pretty, Westerton Lilian is that girl.

Customer Conduct Policy
Customer Conduct Policy
We’re all about respectful and constructive communication—it’s how we ensure a positive experience for everyone in our growing community. If you have feedback or concerns, please reach out to us directly so we can resolve the issue promptly and fairly. We’re here to help, and we take pride in finding solutions that work.
That said, we reserve the right to refuse service, cancel orders, or void guarantees if a customer engages in disrespectful behavior. Over the years, we’ve seen too many growers face devastating challenges because of impatient or unfair actions, like airing complaints publicly on social media before giving the business a chance to address them.
Here’s the deal: If customer service matters are taken public before we’ve had a chance to help, we may choose to walk away and void guarantees. Likewise, if we see posts that are intentionally damaging or rude behavior toward other growers in the community, we reserve the right to decline your orders altogether.
We’re all in this together, so let’s keep it kind, constructive, and focused on growing beautiful things. 🌱
Grow & Care
Grow & Care
Dahlias are tender perennials, vigorous and fast growing. Dahlia tubers must be lifted for the winter from the ground in zones 7 and lower.
Planting:
Dahlias require soil that drains freely. Clay soil should be amended. Planting in raised beds can help alleviate moisture concerns. Tuber loss due to moisture rot is the leading cause for plant loss.
Plant 6" deep. Dig hole at least twice the width of your tuber to reduce soil compaction.
Label and stake your Dahlia at planting. Tubers do not need to be watered unless you are dealing with especially dry conditions. Whatever Mother Nature provides will be enough.
Care:
When Dahlias reach 10-12", the center tip should be pinched. This will create a bushier plan and yield more blooms. Without pinching, the plant will grow one tall, thick central stalk.
Your Dahlias will bloom from mid-summer until frost. Keep spent blooms trimmed and you'll enjoy repeat blooms all season long.
