Jolene (aka Cafe au Lait Mini) – A Wedding-Ready Favorite

If you're a fan of Cafe au Lait but wish she were just a bit more manageable, meet Jolene... a compact, creamy-blush dahlia that brings all the romance with a little less drama. Known by some as Cafe au Lait Mini, Jolene features blooms in soft shades ranging from ivory to pearly buff to a subtle pink-peach, depending on conditions. The color variation is dreamy, the bloom size is practical, and the vibes are straight-up wedding magic.

This informal decorative dahlia has strong, straight stems and a more compact growth habit, making it easier to work with in both the field and floral design. Jolene plays especially well in bridal work—offering that iconic Cafe au Lait palette in a smaller, more bouquet-friendly package. Plus, it holds well in the vase and pumps out reliable, uniform blooms all season long.

Jolene, sometimes marketed as ‘Cafe au Lait Mini’, appears to have emerged from a tuber line originally labelled as Cafe au Lait, but which produced consistently smaller blooms and stronger stems. Some growers describe the origin as a mis‑labelling event, and acknowledge that Jolene is not genetically identical to the original Cafe au Lait cultivar. Regardless of the origin, the result is a highly usable, bouquet‑friendly dahlia with the cream/blush tones of Cafe au Lait in a more manageable size.

Because the cultivar appears to have entered the market via informal propagation rather than a formal breeding release, exact introduction data and breeder information are unavailable.

Whether you're designing for weddings or just love a clean, romantic bloom, Jolene is a must-grow.

Customer Conduct Policy

We’re all about respectful and constructive communication—it’s how we ensure a positive experience for everyone in our growing community. If you have feedback or concerns, please reach out to us directly so we can resolve the issue promptly and fairly. We’re here to help, and we take pride in finding solutions that work.

That said, we reserve the right to refuse service, cancel orders, or void guarantees if a customer engages in disrespectful behavior. Over the years, we’ve seen too many growers face devastating challenges because of impatient or unfair actions, like airing complaints publicly on social media before giving the business a chance to address them.

Here’s the deal: If customer service matters are taken public before we’ve had a chance to help, we may choose to walk away and void guarantees. Likewise, if we see posts that are intentionally damaging or rude behavior toward other growers in the community, we reserve the right to decline your orders altogether.

We’re all in this together, so let’s keep it kind, constructive, and focused on growing beautiful things. 🌱

Grow & Care

Dahlias are tender perennials, vigorous and fast growing. Dahlia tubers must be lifted for the winter from the ground in zones 7 and lower.

Planting:

Dahlias require soil that drains freely. Clay soil should be amended. Planting in raised beds can help alleviate moisture concerns. Tuber loss due to moisture rot is the leading cause for plant loss.

Plant 6" deep. Dig hole at least twice the width of your tuber to reduce soil compaction.

Label and stake your Dahlia at planting. Tubers do not need to be watered unless you are dealing with especially dry conditions. Whatever Mother Nature provides will be enough.

Care:

When Dahlias reach 10-12", the center tip should be pinched. This will create a bushier plan and yield more blooms. Without pinching, the plant will grow one tall, thick central stalk.

Your Dahlias will bloom from mid-summer until frost. Keep spent blooms trimmed and you'll enjoy repeat blooms all season long.
