Bring extraordinary fall color to your garden with Callicarpa Magical Purple Giant, a stunning beautyberry shrub known for its exceptionally large, plump clusters of lavender-purple berries. This unique ornamental shrub produces an abundance of oversized berries along graceful, upright branches, creating a spectacular display from autumn into winter.

Unlike traditional beautyberry varieties, Magical Purple Giant features larger berries with a distinctive lavender-purple hue, making it especially desirable for cut flower growers, floral designers, and gardeners seeking dramatic seasonal interest.

In summer, attractive green foliage provides a lush backdrop before transitioning to golden-yellow tones in fall. Once the leaves drop, the berry-covered branches become the star of the garden. These striking stems are perfect for fresh floral arrangements, autumn wreaths, holiday decorations, and specialty cut flower production.

Growing Tips

Planting: Plant bare roots in spring once the soil is workable. Choose a location with good drainage and plenty of sunlight. Water thoroughly after planting and maintain consistent moisture while roots establish.

Sunlight: Full sun encourages strong growth and abundant berry production, although plants tolerate partial shade.

Watering: Keep soil evenly moist during establishment. Avoid waterlogged conditions, which can damage roots.

Pruning: Prune in late winter to encourage vigorous new growth and maintain a productive, well-shaped shrub. Beautyberries flower and fruit on new growth.

Berry Production: For improved pollination and heavier berry set, consider planting multiple beautyberry shrubs together.

Growing Magical Purple Giant for Cut Flowers

Magical Purple Giant is an excellent addition to specialty cut flower farms. Its upright, berry-laden stems add texture, color, and structure to autumn floral designs.

Allow plants to establish before harvesting heavily. Significant harvests generally begin around the third growing season.

For the best cut stems, wait until berries have developed their full color and foliage has naturally dropped. Store harvested branches in a cool location away from direct sunlight to help preserve their vibrant color.

Why Grow Magical Purple Giant?

With its exceptionally large berries, striking purple color, and outstanding potential as a specialty cut branch, Magical Purple Giant is a standout choice for gardeners and flower farmers who want something extraordinary for fall.

Shipping Information

All bare-root plants will ship in March 2027. We are unable to accommodate requests for specific shipping or delivery dates. You will receive a shipping confirmation email with tracking information as soon as your order has been packed.

Please note: Clematis will ship separately from other bare-root plants.

Caring for Your Bare-Root Plants

Your bare-root plants will be waking from dormancy and ready to grow when they arrive. For best results, plant them as soon as possible.

If you cannot plant immediately, store your bare-root plants in a cool, frost-free location to slow new growth. Do not allow them to freeze or dry out.

You may plant directly into prepared garden soil or temporarily pot them into 1-gallon containers. We recommend planting within a few days of arrival, as bare-root plants can decline quickly without proper soil, moisture, and growing conditions.

Plant Royalties & Propagation

The purchase price includes a plant royalty of $1.35–$1.49 per plant. These varieties are protected, and unauthorized propagation is prohibited.
