Callicarpa Magical Deep Purple | Purple Beautyberry Shrub | MAR - APR

When the summer garden begins winding down, Callicarpa Magical Deep Purple is just getting started. This spectacular ornamental beautyberry shrub produces masses of intensely purple berries that cluster along its branches, creating one of the most eye-catching displays of the autumn season.

During spring and summer, Magical Deep Purple provides a graceful backdrop of green foliage and small pinkish flowers. As temperatures begin to cool, the plant transforms into a showstopper, with vivid jewel-toned berries that stand out beautifully against changing autumn foliage.

Also known as purple beautyberry, Callicarpa is especially prized by flower farmers and floral designers for its decorative berry branches. The intensely colored stems add extraordinary texture to autumn bouquets, seasonal centerpieces, and garden-inspired floral arrangements.

In the landscape, Magical Deep Purple makes a beautiful specimen shrub, informal hedge, or addition to mixed borders. Its colorful berries provide interest well beyond the traditional flowering season.

Growing Tips

Plant Magical Deep Purple Beautyberry in fertile, well-draining soil with full sun to partial shade. Full sun generally encourages strong growth and attractive autumn coloration.

Water regularly during establishment and provide supplemental moisture during extended dry periods. A layer of organic mulch helps protect roots and retain consistent soil moisture.

Prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins. Callicarpa flowers and produces berries on new growth, so thoughtful seasonal pruning helps encourage vigorous stems.

For the best berry display, plant more than one compatible beautyberry nearby when possible. Cross-pollination can improve fruit production, particularly in some Callicarpa varieties.

For cut flower production, harvest branches once berries are fully colored and firm. Remove leaves as needed to highlight the beautiful purple berry clusters.

Magical Deep Purple is an exceptional choice for gardeners who want brilliant autumn color, unusual cut branches, and a beautiful landscape shrub that shines when many summer flowers have finished.

Caring for Your Bare-Root Plants

Your bare-root plants will be waking from dormancy and ready to grow when they arrive. For best results, plant them as soon as possible.

If you cannot plant immediately, store your bare-root plants in a cool, frost-free location to slow new growth. Do not allow them to freeze or dry out.

You may plant directly into prepared garden soil or temporarily pot them into 1-gallon containers. We recommend planting within a few days of arrival, as bare-root plants can decline quickly without proper soil, moisture, and growing conditions.

Plant Royalties & Propagation

The purchase price includes a plant royalty of $1.35–$1.49 per plant. These varieties are protected, and unauthorized propagation is prohibited.
