Anemone x hybrida ‘Honorine Jobert’ (Japanese Windflower)The fall-blooming classic with big wedding energy.

If autumn needed a flower icon, it’d be ‘Honorine Jobert’ — a time-tested stunner with elegant, white blooms and golden-chartreuse centers that dance on tall stems from late summer right into sweater season. This Japanese anemone (actually a hybrid with European roots, but hey, we’re not here to nitpick) brings movement, light, and that little bit of whimsy designers crave for fall weddings.

Why it earns a spot in every border or bouquet:

  • Pure white, 2–3” flowers with frilly yellow stamens and soft green eyes

  • Blooms over a long window: 5–8 weeks, starting late summer into fall

  • Grows 3–4' tall with an upright but airy habit

  • Forms lush mounds of dark green foliage

  • Deer and rabbit resistant, thank goodness

  • Spreads gently by rhizomes over time — not invasive, just ambitious

  • 2016 PPA Perennial of the Year + RHS Award of Garden Merit

Florist-approved:
Those floaty stems and clean white blooms make ‘Honorine Jobert’ a favorite for cutting. It adds movement, texture, and elegance to fall designs — especially wedding work where “ethereal” is the brief and mums just won’t cut it.

What you're actually getting:
These are vernalized perennials grown in deep 32-cell Root Tutor trays. That means chunky root systems, ready to explode into growth once planted. Started the summer before, chilled through winter to trigger flowering, and shipped in spring just as they’re waking up. They might look rough on arrival (dormant or yellowed), but don’t panic — they’re just sleepy, not dead.

Growing details:

  • Best in full sun to part shade

  • Likes average moisture, not soggy feet

  • Hardy through zone 4-ish (and yes, they’ve survived Northern Vermont)

  • Low-maintenance and long-lived once established

Bottom line:
‘Honorine Jobert’ is a garden classic that still turns heads — in beds and in bouquets. With its long bloom season, fuss-free nature, and crisp white flowers, this windflower is a fall-blooming powerhouse that earns its space and then some.
