Iron Series Stock (Matthiola incana)
Strong, Rigid Stems & Creamy Peach Blooms for Florist-Quality Cuts
Iron is a premium, column-type stock (Matthiola incana) bred for reliable, florist-quality stems and a uniform, one-cut harvest. Aptly named, this series produces strong, straight, rigid stems that hold up beautifully in arranging and transport. Plants are single-stemmed and highly uniform, making Iron ideal for professional growers and serious cut-flower gardeners.
In our garden, Iron stock performed well in spring, early summer, and fall trials, offering dependable stems across the cool-season window. Compared to Katz, Iron flowers slightly later and has somewhat shorter, thicker stems, giving it a sturdy, compact presence in the vase. The tightly spaced florets create 1½–2" creamy peach-colored blooms with a full, elegant appearance on each spike. Iron is selectable for doubles and produces around 55% double flowers without selection.
Note: This variety produces one flowering stem per plant. Pinching is not advisable, as it will terminate flowering.
