Laciniated

M (Miniature) up to 4"

Height: 48"

Meet Lee’s Ellis, a wildly fun laciniated dahlia that looks like smoky coral watermelon slices on a stem. The 3" blooms blend coral, salmon, and rosy tones with a swirled, fringed petal shape that brings instant interest to every bouquet.

Bred by Lee Hemmings Carlton of Goldenrod Gardens in North Carolina and introduced in 2022, this variety was created with florists in mind. Plants reach around 4 ft tall and crank out long, slender stems that are easy to harvest and arrange—ideal for anyone growing a cut flower garden or dahlia patch at home.

If you’re stocking up on dahlia tubers for a cutting garden, cottage garden, or small flower farm, ‘Lee’s Ellis’ is one of those workhorse varieties that also feels special. It tucks in beautifully with peaches, corals, and raspberry tones and brings texture to mixed market bouquets and mason jar arrangements alike.

These dahlia tubers are sold individually and are part of our dahlias for sale collection geared toward home growers who want florist-quality blooms in their own backyard.

Farmer Notes

  • Think smoky coral meets watermelon – not flat color, but layered and saturated.

  • The laciniated petals give bouquets movement and texture without overwhelming other blooms.

  • Stems are long and straight, great for cut flower production and easy bunching.

  • If you like varieties such as KA’s Coral Sea, this one hits a similar color lane—with extra texture and personality.

  • Plant Height: ~4 ft in our dahlia garden

  • Color: Smoky coral, salmon, and watermelon tones

  • Use: Cut flower, bouquets, cottage garden borders, dahlia garden plantings

  • Introduced: 2022

  • Hybridizer: Lee Hemmings Carlton, Goldenrod Gardens (North Carolina)

Welcome to the Dahlia Files

The Dahlia Files is our ever-growing library of blooms we’ve grown, loved, retired, and occasionally fired. Think of it as our not-so-secret vault: organized, categorized, and sometimes judged.

This is where we keep notes on every dahlia that’s passed through our fields—whether it’s a current favorite or a one-season wonder. These blooms aren’t for sale here (sad trombone 🎺), but you can see what is coming up or available to shop from the navigation bar, following on Instagram, and subscribing to the newsletter.
