Meet Bloomquist Essence, the dahlia that looks like it’s been dusted with starlight.
This miniature-to-small formal decorative variety opens in soft, icy pale pink, sometimes shifting toward magenta or lavender tones depending on light and temperature. Each petal is tipped with a tiny bright yellow or golden “star,” giving the bloom a sparkling, almost glowing look. Some gardeners also see layered apricot and rose tones in the petals as the flowers mature, adding even more depth to arrangements.
Created by renowned hybridizer Paul Bloomquist of Lynden, Washington and introduced in 2023, Bloomquist Essence is part of our Legacy Collection—a curated group of varieties we believe will stay special for years, not just one season.
In the garden, Bloomquist Essence is:
Productive – lots of blooms over a long season
Strong-stemmed – ideal for cutting and arranging
Perfect bouquet size – blooms average 3.5–4" across
A reliable 3–4 ft tall plant (about 40–48") that fits easily into beds and cutting rows
If you love soft, romantic palettes with interesting detail up close, Bloomquist Essence is a star performer. The yellow-tipped petals add a little extra sparkle in bridal work, pastel mixes, and late-summer arrangements.
