Well, this one wasn’t the best performer for us. I’m the East Tennessee heat, this dahlia variety produced a lot of open centers. It was shielded from direct sun in the late afternoon and evening which does the trick for most dahlias. There were a few lovely blooms and the bees adored this plant, so maybe she’s a great seed mama.

With all of that said, I’m giving her another season because there are a few things I really like and hope to see more of once acclimated to this climate:

Dusky, Shifting Colors:

KA’s Desert Rose® is a 4” formal decorative dahlia with colors that evolve beautifully throughout the season. In hotter weather, the blooms appear nearly red, but as temperatures cool, they fade into a rose hue with lower petals turning a sandy rose color. This ombre effect is pretty lovely.

Steady Bloomer with High Petal Count:

Introduced in 2024 by Kristine Albrecht of Santa Cruz Dahlias™. This steady bloomer features perfectly round centers, a high petal count, and incredibly strong stems.

Licensed Sellers:

We are a licensed seller of KA's® dahlias. Varieties marked with the symbol ® can be grown, multiplied, traded, or donated. Growers can sell the cut flowers. They can harvest and share or sell seeds. Customers who purchase these varieties may not sell cuttings, tubers, or plants of the trademarked varieties without first signing a trademark licensing agreement with Santa Cruz Dahlias™.

In early 2024, we partnered with Santa Cruz Dahlias to become a licensed seller of their exceptional dahlia varieties. As part of that agreement, we committed to returning 25% of each sale to Kristine Albrecht/Santa Cruz Dahlias to support the incredible work of the hybridizer.

While the agreement has since been revised to delay the effective date for royalty payments, we believe in honoring our original commitment. Fuirk Home will ensure that royalty payments from each sale of the current crop are sent to Santa Cruz Dahlias.

Customer Conduct Policy

We’re all about respectful and constructive communication—it’s how we ensure a positive experience for everyone in our growing community. If you have feedback or concerns, please reach out to us directly so we can resolve the issue promptly and fairly. We’re here to help, and we take pride in finding solutions that work.

That said, we reserve the right to refuse service, cancel orders, or void guarantees if a customer engages in disrespectful behavior. Over the years, we’ve seen too many growers face devastating challenges because of impatient or unfair actions, like airing complaints publicly on social media before giving the business a chance to address them.

Here’s the deal: If customer service matters are taken public before we’ve had a chance to help, we may choose to walk away and void guarantees. Likewise, if we see posts that are intentionally damaging or rude behavior toward other growers in the community, we reserve the right to decline your orders altogether.

We’re all in this together, so let’s keep it kind, constructive, and focused on growing beautiful things. 🌱

Grow & Care

Dahlias are tender perennials, vigorous and fast growing. Dahlia tubers must be lifted for the winter from the ground in zones 7 and lower.

Planting:

Dahlias require soil that drains freely. Clay soil should be amended. Planting in raised beds can help alleviate moisture concerns. Tuber loss due to moisture rot is the leading cause for plant loss.

Plant 6" deep. Dig hole at least twice the width of your tuber to reduce soil compaction.

Label and stake your Dahlia at planting. Tubers do not need to be watered unless you are dealing with especially dry conditions. Whatever Mother Nature provides will be enough.

Care:

When Dahlias reach 10-12", the center tip should be pinched. This will create a bushier plan and yield more blooms. Without pinching, the plant will grow one tall, thick central stalk.

Your Dahlias will bloom from mid-summer until frost. Keep spent blooms trimmed and you'll enjoy repeat blooms all season long.
